The Day That I Grow Old

If I should need direction

on the path that I will walk

If I should aimlessly wander

off the subject when I talk;

Secure me and assure me

that all is well and stable

For to carry on without your love,

I know I’d be unable

Be my eyes and guide my steps

when time does take its toll

No fear, no shame and no regrets

the day that I grow old.

I’ll look to you to feed my hunger

and for me you will speak

Reminding me

when we were younger…

…before my memory became oblique

In your eyes I’ll seek consent,

approval and permission;

to talk about the years that went,

with no trace of contrition.

Thanks to you I’ll never be

among the lost and lonely;

With you by my side

to love and to guide

and be my one and only.
